A Pair of Brown Eyes: Summary/Resumen

It’s been a long while since I first started writing A Pair of Brown Eyes, so the time has come for me to sum up everything that’s been going on in the story so far. And also, to those new readers out there, this is the perfect moment for you to catch up ;). Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que empecé a escribir Unos Ojos marrones, así que había llegado la hora de resumir todo lo que ha pasado en la historia hasta ahora. Y además, para todos los nuevos lectores que pueda haber por ahí, este es el momento perfecto para poneros al día ;). 	Prologue, in which we meet Claire Parker and Dr. Andrew Stuart, just after the two of them have been engaged in a particularly sensitive argument.
Chapter 01, in which we learn of Claire’s arrival at Canada six months prior. She’s seeking a new life away from her native England. What’s the meaning of the cryptical things she keeps telling herself?
	Chapter 02, in which Claire rekindles an old friendship with her boarding school fellowmate Ethel Roberts (née Stuart). What is she hiding from her friend? And why would she not talk about her late husband?
Chapter 03, in which Claire and Andrew (Ethel’s brother) meet for the first time. When he had agreed to give her a chance as his nurse, he would never have suspected he would immediately be drawn by her brown eyes and her will to overcome her fears.
	Chapter 04, in which Claire and Ethel take a stroll down memory lane, recalling their pleasant days spent at school. We learn of Claire’s friendly character and of her fondness for music.
Chapter 05, in which Claire starts having nightmares revolving around her suicide attempt when she was seventeen. But, are they just dreams? On a more positive note, she’s shocked when Andrew stands up for her against a badly-behaved patient.
	Chapter 06, in which Andrew discovers two things about Claire: that she behaves strangely self-conscious in her dealings with men, and that she has a talent for music.
Chapter 07, in which we learn that Claire can bear no children, due to a miscarriage gone wrong when she was seventeen. She’s once again shocked by Andrew’s kindness over a failed cup of tea.
	Chapter 08, in which we get to know Andrew’s past as Ethel’s legal guardian ever since their father passed away. Besides, his sister discovers his fondness for Claire.
Chapter 09, in which we learn of Claire’s rape by a man named Geoffrey Richardson when she was fifteen. This recollection is made even more traumatic for her by comparison with Ethel’s happy marriage.
	Chapter 10, in which we meet Andrew’s old fiancée, Olivia Norton, who’s presented as a superficial and shallow girl who wouldn’t consent to marry a doctor. Claire surprises them when they are about to kiss, and this forces him to acknowledge his true feelings.
Chapter 11, in which, after some hesitation and sleepless nights, Andrew can no longer deny his feelings for Claire and kisses her. Claire, on her part, can’t cope with her being jealous. The only jealousy she’s known so far is that of the man who would beat her for any reason.
	Chapter 12, in which the aftermath of their kiss is revealed. Both are shocked by the other’s reaction, but for very different reasons: Andrew, of her apparent lack of experience; Claire, of his gentleness and adoration.
Chapter 13, in which Claire and Andrew spend a pleasant date going to a piano recital. She’s introduced to the gifted interpreter, Mr, Williams, who shows an interest in her music.
	Chapter 14, in which Claire accepts Ethel’s offer of taking part in the local celebrations by playing some tunes. She also becomes acquainted with a not-so-nice side of Andrew.
Chapter 15, in which Andrew and Claire kiss again. But their blissful moment is interrupted by an unfortunate choice of words on his part. He starts getting tired of her unexpected reactions every time he tries to approach her.
	Chapter 16, in which Claire hints to Ethel, while horse riding, that her… marriage? might not have been a happy one. Andrew, on his part, has gone fishing and is still brooding—that is, until someone points out Claire’s lack of wedding ring.
Chapter 17, in which Claire doesn’t want Ethel to intimate to her brother what she told her. She also remembers why she hates the last eleven Septembers of her life: a few days after having been raped (Chapter 09), her father had something to tell her…
	Chapter 18, in which Andrew and Claire share a magical kiss, while surrounded by paper lanterns, once the celebrations for the festival are over.
Chapter 19, in which Claire’s ecstatic feelings are disrupted by reality. All her scars – both psychological and physical – resurface as she undresses.
	Chapter 20, in which Claire, Andrew and his nieces enjoy an outing. Claire’s feelings for Andrew are as conflicting as ever, and an inappropriate question by one of the children makes matters even worse.
Chapter 21, in which Andrew starts contemplating marriage, but Claire’s behaviour never ceases to amaze him; this time, by her shocking mistrust of police forces. Claire’s take on the matter tell a different story.
	Chapter 22, in which Claire is gathering enough courage to tell Andrew her truth. But, will she tell him the whole truth, or half of it? Or will she choose not to tell him anything in the end? It happens simultaneously to Chapter 23.

	Prólogo, en el que conocemos a Claire Parker y al Doctor Andrew Stuart, justo en el momento en el que acaban de tener una discusión delicada.
Capítulo 01, en el que retrocedemos seis meses y vemos a Claire llegar a Canadá e instalarse en su nuevo hogar. Busca una nueva vida lejos de su Inglaterra natal. ¿Qué significan esos pensamientos crípticos que no deja de repetirse a si misma?
	Capítulo 02, en el que Claire recupera a una antigua compañera de colegio, Ethel Roberts (nacida Ethel Stuart) ¿Qué le esconde Claire a su amiga? ¿Y por qué se resiste a hablar de su difunto marido?
Capítulo 03, en el que Claire y Andrew (el hermano de Ethel) se conocen por primera vez. Cuando él accedió a darle una oportunidad como enfermera no se había imaginado que los ojos marrones de Claire y su determinación por superar los obstáculos iban a seducirlo desde el primer momento.
	Capítulo 04, en el que Claire y Ethel rememoran los tiempos felices pasados en el internado. Nos enteramos de que, en la infancia, Claire poseía un carácter amistoso y sentía fascinación por la música.
Capítulo 05, en el que Claire comienza a tener pesadillas que tienen que ver con un intento de suicidio a los diecisiete años. Pero, ¿son tan sólo sueños? En un aspecto más positivo, Andrew consigue sorprenderla cuando la defiende de un paciente ebrio que intenta propasarse.
	Capítulo 06, en el que Andrew descubre dos cosas sobre Claire: que se muestra sorprendentemente insegura cuando trata con hombres, y que tiene un gran talento para la música.
Capítulo 07, en el que descubrimos que Claire no puede tener hijos, debido a un aborto que sufrió cuando tenía diecisiete años. Andrew consigue sorprenderla nuevamente al mostrarse amable tras una fallida taza de té.
	Capítulo 08, en el que nos enteramos del pasado de Andrew como tutor legal de Ethel tras la muerte del padre de ambos. Aparte de eso, Ethel descubre la debilidad que su hermano siente por Claire.
Capítulo 09, en el que descubrimos que un hombre llamado Geoffrey Richardson violó a Claire cuando ésta tenía quince años. Este recuerdo le resulta incluso más traumático al compararlo con el matrimonio feliz en el que vive Ethel.
	Capítulo 10, en el que conocemos a la antigua prometida de Andrew, Olivia Norton, la cual se nos presenta como una chica superficial que no podía aceptar casarse con un médico. Claire sorprende a los dos cuando están a punto de besarse, y esto fuerza a Andrew a afrontar sus verdaderos sentimientos.
Capítulo 11, en el que, tras algunas dudas y noches de insomnio, Andrew ya no puede ocultar sus sentimientos por Claire y la besa. Claire, por su parte, es incapaz de registrar sus propios celos, porque los únicos celos que ha conocido en su vida han sido los del hombre que le pegaba por cualquier motivo.
	Capítulo 12, en el que se nos revela el efecto que el beso ha provocado en los dos. Ambos se sienten sorprendidos por la reacción del otro, pero por motivos diferentes: Andrew, por la aparente falta de experiencia de Claire; Claire, por la amabilidad y gentileza de Andrew.
Capítulo 13, en el que Claire y Andrew pasan una hermosa velada en un recital de piano. Andrew le presenta a Claire al virtuoso intérprete, el Sr. Williams, quien se muestra interesado por la música de ésta.
	Capítulo 14, en el que Claire acepta formar parte de la festividad local interpretando varias piezas al piano. También descubre por primera vez el lado menos amable de Andrew.
Capítulo 15, en el que Andrew y Claire vuelven a besarse. Pero la magia del momento se deshace por una desafortunada elección de palabras. Andrew comienza a cansarse de las inesperadas reacciones de Claire cada vez que intenta acercarse a ella.
	Capítulo 16, en el que Claire le insinúa a Ethel, mientras montan a caballo, que su ¿matrimonio? no fue feliz. Andrew, por su lado, se ha ido de pesca y sigue malhumorado (al menos, hasta que alguien le menciona la ausencia de alianza en la mano de Claire).
Capítulo 17, en el que Claire no quiere que Ethel le cuente a su hermano lo que ella le confesó. También recuerda por qué odia los últimos once Septiembres de su vida: unos días después de haber sido violada (Capítulo 09), su padre tenía algo que contarle…
	Capítulo 18, en el que Andrew y Claire comparten un mágico beso, rodeados por farolillos de papel, una vez terminadas las celebraciones.
Capítulo 19, en el que Claire ve cómo su euforia se ve truncada por la realidad. Todas sus cicatrices (tanto físicas como psicológicas) reaparecen mientras se desviste.
	Capítulo 20, en el que Claire, Andrew y las sobrinas de éste disfrutan de una excursión. Los sentimientos de Claire hacia Andrew la confunden como nunca, y una pregunta incómoda por parte de una de las niñas complica las cosas aún más.
Capítulo 21, en el que Andrew empieza a plantearse el matrimonio, pero el comportamiento de Claire siempre consigue confundirle; esta vez, se trata de su sorprendente desconfianza por la policía. La versión de Claire sobre ese mismo asunto cuenta una historia diferente.
	Capítulo 22, en el que Claire intenta reunir el valor suficiente para contarle a Andrew la verdad. Pero, ¿le contará la verdad al completo, o sólo algunas partes? ¿O decidirá al final no decirle nada? Sucede de forma simultánea al Capítulo 23.
