She had been rehearsing more than usual that afternoon, but it had been worth the effort, since now she was proud to acknowledge that all her chords were finally in place and the piece was finished. And just in time, too. She felt a deep feeling of acomplishment she hadn’t known for years.
“Well, tomorrow is the day. Are you nervous? Because I, for one, could never hold my excitement back whenever I knew I would hear one of your recitals.” Ethel accompanied her usual exuberance by a loud clasp of her hands. “I used to envy your talent so much.”
